BRING BACK THE SPRING IN YOUR STEP
Are you looking for a way to get rid of foot pain? Do you have trouble running or walking? Custom orthotics might be right for you! At the Center For Athletic Performance & Physical Therapy, our expert therapists utilize cutting edge techniques to provide the best orthotic inserts.
What Are Orthotics?
Orthoses are custom devices applied to the exterior of the foot/leg. Foot orthoses are typically custom inserts for a shoe. When properly applied, they provide patients with relief from symptoms such as:
- Foot, knee, hip, or back pain
- Plantar fasciitis
- Morton’s Neuroma
- Achilles tendonitis
- Sever’s disease
- “Shin splints” (tibial stress syndromes)
- Patella tendonitis
- Patella femoral syndrome
- IT Band syndrome (knee or hip)
In order to properly prescribe the correct orthosis for a patient, our therapists analyze the patient’s entire body. Be it running, walking, golf, soccer or any other activity, our therapist will evaluate your biomechanics in simulated activities designed to reveal your individual movement patterns. If you’ve ever watched baseball, you’ll notice that every batter has their own unique stance and swing – the same applies to walking and running!
All of our orthotics can be fully customized and be made soft, medium or rigid depending on the surface that is appropriate for your foot type.
How Orthotics Work
Custom orthoses treat injuries such as foot arch pain by realigning the foot joints, as well as redistributing the impact forces from walking or running. Other uses include immobilization of certain joints to prevent improper, pain-inducing movement, and stabilization of joints that are bearing too much stress. Orthotics can be used in conjunction with other physical therapy techniques to speed healing, such as after knee surgery.
