Cynthia Cooper, MA, OTR/L, CHT
Cynthia is the director of our hand therapy program. She is a certified hand therapist with over 30 years of clinical experience. She is a charter member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and has won the Best Scientific Paper Award and Best Poster Award at ASHT. She has been a board member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and is a recipient of the AOTA Service Award. She is Adjunct Faculty in the Occupational Therapy Program at A. T. Still University in Mesa, AZ. She presents at hand surgery and hand therapy conferences nationally and has publications in peer-reviewed journals, and chapters published in textbooks for hand therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Topics of interest include Hand Therapy Basics, Preventing Hand Injuries, Pain Syndromes, Sprains and Strains, Arthritis, Patient-Centered Hand Therapy, and Hand Yoga. Ms. Cooper is the editor and primary author of Fundamentals of Hand Therapy: Clinical Reasoning and Treatment Guidelines for Common Diagnoses of the Upper Extremity, which is a hand therapy textbook used for academic programs, clinical training, and preparation by clinicians for the CHT exam. It has both domestic and international distribution and is undergoing revisions for a second edition.
