This February, we’ve selected Ron Tornell as our Athlete of the Month. Ron has been rehabilitating and training with us for a year and a half and was chosen by our Cave Creek Sports Performance Director, Drew Bohannan.
Ron has worked really hard and dedicated himself to his rehabilitation with us from shoulder and ankle injuries. After his recovery, he began personal training with Drew in May 2013.
“Ron has come a long way since he began training with us. He has become one of the strongest and fittest athletes at our facility,” Drew said.
Ron has been water and snow skiing since his early twenties and he’s been a runner since community college.
He continued to run 10Ks and half marathons after college, and has hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim several times while backpacking.
When he found out his left knee had exposed bone in the joint, he moved to cycling. He rode in the tour de Tucson for his 50thbirthday.
Ron was motivated to begin working out by his buddy whose dad died of a heart attack in his early 40s. His buddy wanted to prevent the same thing from happening to him.
In his free time, Ron enjoys riding motorcycles and building radio controlled airplanes and his role model is Pat Tillman.
